Bouw Residence

This site is situated amonst the hills and valleys of bonogin. The rear of the site backs onto the bonogin creek and views through the valley to the south. This home was designed to suit the sloping block and take advantage of the views to the south. With the main living areas to the southwest, highlight windows were used to allow direct sunlight into these spaces.

A 4 car garage was required and to reduce the visual impact of garage doors, timber battens were used to create a feature and conceal the doors.

The master ensuite features a glass roof to allow star glazing baths at night.

The rear entertaining area has a large atrium feel with a cantilevered balcony above.

Frenchs Forest Residence

This site is a steep block that backs onto the Jindabyne reserve in Frenchs Forest, north Sydney. Taking advantage of these natural surroundings was a priority. The client’s brief was for a minimalist home that maximized natural lighting to bring the outside in. Large portions of glazing along the northern and eastern facades are used to achieve this. The majority of the home is on steel post to preserve the pockets of sandstone present on the site. Making use of a ramp to access the pool area came as an architectural feature but more so allowed natural aspects of the site to be appreciated. The contrasting finishes of white render and timber battens softened the impact of the built form in its surrounds. The layout remained simple and open to achieve a functional floor plan. A gas fire place for heating is positioned between the family & dining area. The exposed flue extends through the floor above to the master bedroom and ensuite maximizing heat distribution.
